Tokyo born, world renowned, contemporary artist whose paintings and techniques invented the "superflat" style.
As a "Pop" artist his manga and anime inspired whimsical style has flattened planes of color and graphic images, thereby flattening tradition and modernity into oneness.
His made up characters, such as "Mr. Dob", are used to comment on a Japanese subculture of people who are excessively interested in consumerism and sexual fetishism. Doing so, he blends art and commerce with toys created of his characters and painting characters that appear as if they were mainstream cartoon characters--something that could be mass produced and brought home.
